Polynucleotides for the skin: what they are and what they are not

What do the terms polynucleotides and biostimulation mean? Product information and questions that can help you put treatment claims into perspective.

Aesthetic Munich

What the term explains and what remains unanswered

Polynucleotides are chains of nucleotides. In aesthetic treatment information, they are often mentioned alongside the term "biostimulation". This refers to the intended stimulation of the body's own processes; the word alone does not demonstrate a particular treatment outcome.

To make a decision, you therefore need more than the name of an ingredient: the specific product, its composition, its intended use and clear information about the expected benefits.

Fillers, skin boosters or polynucleotides?

A traditional filler is discussed in relation to volume and shape. Skin boosters focus more on hydration and skin quality. Polynucleotides are not stem cells. These terms do not describe products that are automatically interchangeable.

The article Fillers or skin boosters? helps you describe your desired outcome more precisely. You can find information about the polynucleotide procedure in the section on polynucleotides.

What exactly does "regenerating" mean?

Ask which visible change a term like this refers to. Is it about fine lines, hydration or another feature? For which group of people, product and area is information available?

A general statement about "skin rejuvenation" does not answer these questions. Before-and-after images also do not show whether your own skin condition, the application and the observation period are comparable.

The eye area requires a separate decision

Thin skin or fine lines alone are not enough to recommend a treatment around the eyes. Shadows, swelling and an anatomical hollow are different starting points.

The page on Eye area helps organise these observations for the consultation. Whether a particular product can be used there is a separate question.

What you should know before making a decision

  • What is the exact product name, and which ingredients does it contain?
  • For which application and area is it intended?
  • What documentation supports the expected benefit for my concern?
  • What uncertainties, risks and reasons against treatment are there?
  • Who will perform the treatment, and what qualifications do they have?
  • What alternatives are available, including choosing no treatment?

The term polynucleotides alone does not establish a fixed duration of results or a required number of sessions.
